The Niger Bend

This hat is the largest and finest quality Fulani hat made in Mali. It is distinguished by the tightness of the weave of the straw and the patterns woven into it, unique to Malian Fulani hats. In fact the designs woven into this hat are extraordinarily intricate. When new, the leather is red; the brown color of this leather is an indication of its age. This level of use confirms its authenticity although it is still in excellent condition. Regrettably, though virtually perfect in every other regard the strap has been damaged and so is not complete. 20 5/8″ diameter (52 cm)
