The fish on this ring is undoubtedly a meaningful symbol although we are unaware of its significance. Virtually all jewelry worn by African tribal people traditionally serves a protective function, assuring the good health, safety and success of him (or her) who wears it. Although its exact age is not known, it clearly was used a long time before we bought it. We call the metal “coin silver” because the source of all silver used in African jewelry is coins melted down. The silver content is variable but would rarely approach sterling. Size 7.
